Multi-photo scanning (Cultivator)
Some plant problems are hard to see from one angle. Spider mites hide on leaf undersides. Stem cankers show only from certain rotations. The AI's confidence drops when it's working from a single view of an ambiguous symptom. Multi-photo scanning lets you submit up to 4 additional angles alongside the primary photo on a single scan, and the model fuses them into one higher-confidence diagnosis.
How to add additional photos
After capturing the primary photo on /scan, an Additional photos block appears below it (Cultivator tier only). Click + and pick or capture another photo. Repeat for up to 4 extra angles.
Each extra photo uploads to Vercel Blob and gets attached to the scan. The AI engine receives URLs for all of them and processes them as a unified evidence set.
When multi-photo helps most
Symptoms that hide on the underside, spider mites, scale insects, downy mildew, rust diseases. Submit one upper-leaf shot and one underside.
Spreading symptoms, show the most damaged leaf at close range plus a wider shot of the whole plant. Location is half the diagnosis (top, middle, bottom).
Stem or trunk problems, rotate around the plant and capture two or three sides. Cankers, wounds, and weeping spots often only show from one angle.
Tips for the extra photos
They should all be the same plant. Mixing different plants confuses the model.
Each photo should focus on a different angle or detail. Submitting five photos of the same leaf doesn't add information.
Same lighting, same focal distance where possible. Wildly different exposures can shift color perception across the photos.
Frequently asked
- Does each extra photo cost a scan from my monthly limit?
- No. Adding extra photos is part of a single scan call, counts as one scan against your Cultivator monthly limit. The AI engine charges once per scan regardless of how many photos you submit.
- Can I add photos to a scan after submitting it?
- Not currently. The scan is sent as a unit. If you want to add photos, run a new scan with all the angles included. You can link that new scan to the same saved plant for a clean timeline.
- What file types are supported for extra photos?
- Same as the primary: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC. Each photo capped at 10MB. Bulk-select on your phone, or capture one at a time.
- I'm on Grower, can I still get the multi-angle accuracy boost?
- Multi-photo is Cultivator-only because it consumes more upstream AI capacity. Grower tier scans use a single photo. Upgrade to Cultivator for multi-photo plus assistant-refined guidance.
