Using GrowPilot
Tagging plants and tracking growth stages
Tags and growth stages let you organize a growing collection. Tags are arbitrary labels you create (variety name, source, treatment status, anything). Growth stage is a per-plant enum (seedling, vegetative, flowering, fruiting, harvest, dormant) that adjusts how the AI weights its recommendations. Both are visible on the plant detail page.
Creating and applying tags
Open any saved plant's detail page. Below the title sits the Tag editor: click an existing tag to toggle assignment, or click + New tag to create one. Tags are colored chips with names up to 50 characters.
Tags are user-scoped, not plant-scoped, once you create "Greenhouse Bay 2," you can apply it to any plant in your collection. Same tag, multiple plants.
Pick a color when creating: sage, blue, amber, red, purple, and others. Useful for visual grouping at a glance (e.g., all hydroponic plants in blue).
Setting growth stage
The Growth stage selector on the plant detail page is a tile picker with seven options: Not set, Seedling, Vegetative, Flowering, Fruiting, Harvest, Dormant. Click to set; click Not set to clear.
On Cultivator tier, the AI uses the current growth stage to refine recommendations, a flowering plant gets different fertilizer advice than a vegetative one. On Grower and Basic, the stage is a label only.
What you can do with tags
Visual grouping. Tags appear on the plant detail page header and on plant cards in the Plants list. Color-coding makes it easy to scan.
Mental organization. Treat tags like folders, "Outdoor," "Indoor," "Watch closely," "Treated for pests." There's no formal filter UI yet, but consistent tagging makes the Plants list easier to skim.
Future-proofing. Filter and search on tags are coming. Tag now, benefit later.
Frequently asked
- Are tags shared across users?
- No. Tags are user-scoped, your tags are yours alone, not visible to other users. Even on a multi-grower collaboration setup, each user maintains their own tag vocabulary.
- Is there a limit to how many tags I can create?
- Not currently. We may add a per-tier cap if abuse becomes an issue, but realistic usage (dozens of tags) is well below any limit we'd impose.
- Will updating a plant's growth stage trigger a new scan?
- No. Growth stage is a metadata field, setting it doesn't cost a scan, doesn't change past diagnoses. It does change how Cultivator-tier LLM guidance is generated on FUTURE scans.
