Tracking batches (Cultivator)
Batches are how Cultivator-tier users organize commercial-scale grows: a batch is a group of plants started together that share a goal, a basil run, a tomato planting, a hydroponic cycle. Once you batch, you can log harvest weights per batch, compare runs over time, and surface anomaly alerts at the batch level instead of one plant at a time.
Creating a batch
Open /batches (Cultivator only). Click + New batch. Give the batch a name ("Basil Run 4," "Tomato Spring 2026"), pick a start date, optionally add notes about the setup.
Once created, the batch is empty. Assign plants to it from each plant's detail page, Batch is a dropdown next to Growth stage. Plants can belong to one batch at a time; reassign anytime.
Logging yields
On the batch detail page, log Harvests: date, plant count harvested, weight in your preferred unit. Each harvest is a row in the yield log.
Harvest dates show up on the Calendar with the amber dot, useful for cross-referencing what was happening in your grow on harvest days.
Comparing runs
The Batches list shows total plants, total yield, and the ratio (yield per plant) for each batch. Sort by yield-per-plant to identify your best-performing runs.
When you start a new run of the same crop, the previous batch becomes your benchmark. Beat last time's yield-per-plant by 15%? The setup is working.
Batch-level anomaly detection
When several plants in the same batch start trending unhealthy in the same week, batch-level anomaly detection flags it on the dashboard. You see "Anomaly detected: Basil Run 4, 3 plants flagged in 5 days" instead of one alert per plant.
Catches systemic issues, water-line contamination, lighting failure, fertilizer mixup, faster than per-plant alerts ever could.
Frequently asked
- Can I move a plant between batches mid-run?
- Yes. Open the plant's detail page, change the Batch dropdown. Useful if you split a run or reassign a plant after observation.
- What units does the yield log support?
- Grams, kilograms, pounds, ounces, and "count" (for things like leaves or stems). Set your preferred default in Settings; the batch detail page accepts overrides per harvest entry.
- Do batches work on Grower tier?
- No. Batches and yield tracking are Cultivator-only, they're the operational layer for commercial cultivation. Grower users can still tag plants for grouping but don't get the batch-level rollups.
